Mexico City, October 2026 — Jorge Campos was honored with the SI Legend recognition during the first edition of the Sports Illustrated Mexico Awards, a ceremony that gathered prominent sports figures to recognize careers, achievements, and contributions across various disciplines.

The award recognizes the legacy of the former Mexican goalkeeper, whose career transcended the pitch thanks to a playing style that broke traditional goalkeeping molds. His ability to also play as a forward, his colorful uniforms, and an authentic personality made him one of the most recognizable figures in international soccer, with an influence that remains relevant both on and off the field.

The ceremony brought together key figures from different generations, including boxer Julio César Chávez, who also received the SI Legend recognition, and Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas, honored with the SI Spirit award. The list of recognized athletes also included flag football player Diana Flores, soccer players Alexis Vega and Scarlett Camberos, managers Antonio Mohamed and Efraín Juárez, as well as diver Osmar Olvera and basketball player Gabriela Jaquez, among others.

Also among the attendees was Luis Roberto Alves “Zague,” former Mexican National Team forward. His presence added another notable name from Mexican soccer to an evening dedicated to celebrating figures who have left a lasting mark on sports.

With this distinction, Jorge Campos adds another honor to a career that has spanned generations and continues to connect soccer with culture, design, and entertainment.
